Nigerian superstar Wizkid has made history as the first African artist to surpass 11 billion total streams on Spotify across all credited works, marking a major milestone for Afrobeats on the global music stage.
The record-breaking achievement was confirmed on Tuesday by music data analytics platform Chart Africa via a post on X, where it revealed that Wizkid had officially crossed the 11 billion streaming mark across all his credits on the platform.
The feat cements his position as one of the most commercially successful African artists in digital streaming history.
According to Chart Africa, no other African musician has previously reached this level of cumulative streams on Spotify, making Wizkid the first to attain the milestone.
The announcement immediately sparked widespread reactions across social media, with fans and industry stakeholders celebrating the singer’s continued global dominance and influence in contemporary African music.
The milestone comes at a time when Wizkid continues to maintain strong streaming performance across new and existing projects.
Just days before the announcement, he released a collaboration titled ‘State of Mind’ with Nigerian disc jockey and producer DJ Tunez. The track, which dropped on May 15, 2026, recorded more than 685,000 global Spotify streams within its first 24 hours, reflecting strong international reception.
Wizkid’s achievement highlights the continued rise of Afrobeats as a dominant global music genre. The 11 billion-stream milestone places Wizkid in an elite category of global music stars and further strengthens the visibility of African music on international platforms.
With this latest record, Wizkid continues to expand his legacy as one of Africa’s most influential musical exports, while setting new benchmarks for future artists emerging from the continent’s fast-growing music scene.
