Notable Nigerians, including Aliko Dangote, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, and Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, have commented and lauded Femi Otedola for writing a book titled ‘Making It Big: Lessons From A Life In Business’
A few days ago, Nigerian entrepreneur, billionaire, and philanthropist, Femi Otedola, announced that ‘Making It Big’, his 298-page memoir published by Fo Books, would be released on August 18, 2025.
Otedola said the book encapsulates the experiences that shaped his life, such as moments of doubt and breakthroughs, adding, “I look forward to opening this conversation with entrepreneurs and visionaries across the world and seeing how these experiences might inspire your own journey forward.”
Commenting on the book, the president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said that as someone who came from an entrepreneurial family, he relates to the book in the sense that it unpacks useful insights for surmounting business hurdles, as well as connecting many corporate dots for budding entrepreneurs.
“This is a highly recommended read for anyone who aspires to be successful in a challenging environment,” Dangote added.
The Director General (DG) of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, stated that it is important that Otedola decided to capture his experiences in a book.
“As the author himself notes, there are very few books by successful African business leaders documenting their journey and sharing lessons learned for posterity, but in particular for a younger generation,” Okonjo-Iweala said.
The president of the African Development Bank Group, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, said, “The book is a must-read for all business leaders, policy makers and young people venturing into the world of entrepreneurship and business.”
Femi Otedola’s daughter, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, said that she could not believe that her father wrote a book about some of the things she has been learning from him all her whole life.
“I am a little jealous that I now have to share it with you guys. The book is important because stories like his remind us that failure is not the end. This is not just a book. It is my father’s legacy, a bold guide to building, breaking, and bouncing back bigger,” the DJ said.
‘Making It Big’, perceived as part business book, part memoir, has been described as a masterclass in attaining and maintaining a positive mindset and a reminder that it is possible to defy the odds, no matter how stacked they are against you.
According to the book’s website, the memoir can be purchased from Narrative Landscape Press (West Africa), Soma Nami Books (East and Southern Africa), and Amazon (the rest of the world)
Also, the website stated that, at this time, ‘Making It Big’ is available in hardcover and softcover editions only, adding, “Digital and audio formats are not currently offered.”
