Award-winning pop superstar Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce have announced their engagement after nearly two years of a high-profile relationship.
The couple revealed the news on Instagram on Tuesday, sharing photos of Kelce proposing in a flower-filled garden and Swift displaying her engagement ring.
Kelce proposed to Swift with an 8-carat cushion-cut brilliant diamond ring, allegedly worth $1M – $1.2M, according to jeweler Avi Bulow, Scripps News reports
Swift, whose new album is due this October, captioned the post: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
The announcement quickly attracted worldwide attention, generating millions of reactions online. Several celebrities, including Avril Lavigne and Cara Delevingne, offered congratulatory messages.
Kelce’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, also celebrated the moment, writing: “Today is a fairy tale. Congrats to Travis and Taylor — welcome permanently to the Chiefs Kingdom.”
In a surprising twist, United States President Donald Trump also congratulated the couple when asked about the engagement during a cabinet meeting.
“I wish him a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player, a great guy, and she’s a terrific person,” Trump said.
The message of goodwill comes despite Trump’s previous criticism of Swift. In September 2024, after she endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential campaign, Trump declared on Truth Social: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” He also mocked her appearance earlier this year, saying she was “no longer hot.”
Swift, who recently concluded her record-breaking Eras Tour, has spoken about her relationship with Kelce during his New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason. She revealed that their romance began after Kelce attempted to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number during one of her concerts.
The podcast episode went viral and later set a Guinness World Record for the most concurrent views of a podcast on YouTube. Swift also used the occasion to announce her forthcoming album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, due for release in October.
Since their relationship became public in 2023, Swift has been a regular presence at Kelce’s NFL games, with cameras often capturing her cheering from the stands. Their engagement now marks a new chapter in a romance that has captured fans’ imaginations around the world.
