Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale has opened up about the emotional moment she witnessed her son, Afrobeats star Mayorkun, begin his journey to stardom under the mentorship of music superstar Davido, revealing that she broke down in tears after seeing the singer and his team support her son’s dream.
Speaking during an interview with actress and media personality Biola Bayo, Adewale recounted how Davido’s phone call to Mayorkun marked a turning point in the singer’s life and career.
According to her, she was present when Davido reached out to her son and invited him to the studio, a move that eventually led to the recording of “Eleko,” the hit song that introduced Mayorkun to a wider audience and established him as one of Nigeria’s fastest-rising music stars.
The actress said the memory remains one of the most emotional moments of her life, noting that she was overwhelmed with gratitude when she saw her son working alongside Davido and members of the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) crew.
Adewale explained that after returning to Nigeria from the United States, where she had spent about nine years, she had the opportunity to witness firsthand the environment in which her son was building his music career.
Recalling the experience, she said she quietly stepped aside and wept after observing the level of support and encouragement Mayorkun was receiving from Davido and his associates.
Adewale disclosed that Davido’s call generated enormous excitement for Mayorkun, who immediately recognised the significance of the opportunity.
The actress also reflected on her son’s early passion for music and creative expression, revealing that he had always shown an interest in writing poems and singing before fame came his way.
Adewale expressed appreciation to Davido for the role he played in helping Mayorkun gain national recognition.
According to her, the DMW crew consistently addressed her as “Mummy,” a gesture she said left a lasting impression on her.
She offered prayers for Davido, Mayorkun and other members of the crew.
