Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has addressed the widely discussed fallout with fellow actress Funke Akindele, adding that public criticism no longer has any impact on her as she chooses to focus on herself rather than revisit past disagreements.
Speaking during an appearance on the Morayo Afolabi Show, Abraham said she has reached a point where negative comments no longer affect her, adding that any response she gives online is simply for amusement rather than because she is hurt.
The actress also declined to revisit the controversy surrounding her relationship with Akindele, stating that she has no interest in discussing events from her past.
According to Abraham, she prefers to move forward instead of dwelling on previous conflicts. She further stressed that she dislikes being constantly compared or pitched against other entertainers, insisting that her priority is to remain true to herself.
Abraham said, “There is nothing anyone would say that will get to me anymore. If I respond to you, it’s because I am just having fun with you. I want to play with you.”
Responding to a question about the disagreement with Akindele, she said, “I don’t want to talk about it because I don’t like talking about my past.”
She added that she wants to be recognised simply as “Toyin Abraham Ajeyemi” rather than being placed in competition with anyone.
Her latest comments come months after a viral moment involving both actresses generated widespread conversation on social media. During actress Iyabo Ojo’s movie premiere in April, a video circulated online showing Toyin Abraham approaching Funke Akindele, Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe to exchange greetings. In the clip, many viewers believed Akindele ignored Abraham’s greeting, an incident that sparked intense reactions among fans and entertainment followers.
Following the incident, Abraham publicly declared that she would never greet Akindele again and revealed that she had unfollowed her on social media.
Akindele later drew attention online after reportedly liking a social media post highlighting Abraham’s statement.
The disagreement also attracted reactions from people within the entertainment industry. Abraham’s husband, Kolawole Ajeyemi, praised his wife for exercising restraint, saying she had chosen to remain silent because of his advice despite wanting to speak out.
Actress Iyabo Ojo, who is known to be close to both women, later spoke about the situation, revealing that Abraham had initially been expected to feature in ‘The Return of Arinzo’ but eventually withdrew from the project at the last minute.
Ojo also stated that she could no longer continue pleading with either party over the dispute.
Several other entertainers also weighed in on the controversy. Actress Nkechi Blessing urged both parties to embrace peace, describing life as too short for prolonged drama. Media personality Do2dtun advised people to carefully distinguish between genuine friends, colleagues and acquaintances, arguing that the entertainment industry is often characterised by superficial relationships.
Veteran actress Fausat Balogun, popularly known as Madam Saje, disclosed that she personally intervened in an attempt to reconcile both actresses. According to her, she contacted those involved and encouraged them to ensure the matter was taken off social media, expressing appreciation that they listened to her.
Actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly called Ogogo, also criticised the lingering disagreement, saying both actresses were too successful to remain at odds. He maintained that he does not interfere in disputes involving women, while fellow actor Segun Ogungbe appealed to both stars to embrace reconciliation and encourage their supporters to focus on promoting positive developments, including his latest cinema project, instead of amplifying conflict.
