Nollywood actress and politician Tonto Dikeh has publicly shared her journey of overcoming decades-long personal struggles with smoking, alcohol, masturbation, and uncontrolled anger during a Sunday service at Streams of Joy International Church in Abuja.
Speaking during the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations service, led by Pastor Jerry Eze, Dikeh described her testimony as both an act of thanksgiving and a public declaration of deliverance.
She recounted that she began smoking at the age of 13, a habit she attributed to exposure at home, and continued for 27 years before seeking spiritual intervention.
“I started smoking because my dad was a smoker. Something as little as that habit can inhabit the lives of your children. My body does not ask for it. My body is repelling it. Today, it is broken,” Dikeh said, urging parents to shield their children from harmful habits.
The actress also revealed her battle with alcohol addiction, describing how she consumed two large bottles of spirits daily, often to the point of passing out. She explained that these habits isolated her socially, leaving her to hide her lifestyle from others.
“I did not care who was looking. In fact, I hated going out because of these habits,” she said, adding that prayer and spiritual intervention have since freed her from these dependencies.
Dikeh further shared that she had struggled with sexual immorality and masturbation since childhood, including recurring sexual experiences in dreams. She attributed her deliverance to attending a prayer conference in Ghana, where she said a long-standing spiritual oppression that had plagued her was finally broken.
“I realised that the weak man who held me captive all my years in my dream ran away,” she said.
The actress also spoke candidly about years of what she described as “demonic anger,” which had negatively affected her relationships and personal life. She said consistent prayer with NSPPD helped her overcome this destructive force and brought her inner peace.
“An anger that destroyed my life. Everybody had to feel it. But praying with NSPPD, God took all of those away and gave me peace,” Dikeh said.
At 40 years old, Dikeh said she is experiencing genuine peace for the first time. She expressed gratitude for her spiritual transformation and emphasised that she no longer experiences cravings for cigarettes or alcohol.
“I am 40 years old, and I can tell you I have never known peace until now. I am living in it,” she added.
Reflecting on her decision to speak publicly, Dikeh admitted she initially hesitated, fearing how her image might be perceived. However, she chose transparency to honour God, noting that her physical appearance or public image was not more important than her testimony.
“The devil tried to tell me that I was supposed to protect my image. But I told myself, what image? The God that gave me the image is the same God that can take it away,” she said.
Pastor Jerry Eze prayed for the actress during the service, declaring that “the body of sin is broken” and acknowledging her as a positive influence in her generation.
Dikeh also shared photos on social media from the church venue, describing herself as “a living testimony of mercy. One God spared, restored, and commissioned.”
In recent months, Tonto Dikeh has spoken openly about her renewed Christian faith, describing her current life as one marked by restoration, peace, and commitment to serving God.
