Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, on Thursday, paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, to discuss regional cooperation, security, and other national concerns.
The visit, confirmed by Soludo on his Facebook page, came shortly after he was re-elected for a second term in the November governorship election.
President Tinubu, according to Soludo, welcomed him with “warmth, a big smile, and open arms,” congratulating him on his electoral victory, which he described as a reflection of the trust and confidence of the people of Anambra in their shared vision for a prosperous and stable state.
“I remain deeply grateful to Mr President for his immediate congratulatory message on that historic day, and for his continued goodwill and support for Anambra State,” Soludo wrote on social media.
“We emphasised that stronger regional cooperation, institutional reforms, and people-centred policies are essential for building a safer, more prosperous, and united Nigeria,” he added.
Soludo’s visit also coincided with the recent regional deliberations in the south, where governors and traditional rulers met in Iperu, Ogun State, under the auspices of the Southern Governors’ Forum (SGF) and the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC).
The high-level gathering produced a comprehensive blueprint aimed at addressing regional challenges, including insecurity, economic resilience, and governance reforms.
According to a statement by Soludo’s spokesman, Christian Aburime, the forum agreed on several decisive measures to bolster regional security.
Among the proposals were the establishment of a zonal security fund to finance coordinated operations across state boundaries, improved intelligence-sharing between security agencies and state governments, advocacy for the creation of state police, and a harmonised resident identification programme to aid planning and security management.
The forum also emphasised strengthening regional security outfits, improving inter-state collaboration, and enhancing the role of traditional institutions as partners in conflict resolution, grassroots mobilisation, and governance.
The SGF’s deliberations concluded with a collective vote of confidence in President Tinubu, commending his leadership and commitment to national stability and economic reforms.
Soludo, who serves as Vice Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, played an active role in the discussions and reiterated Anambra State’s commitment to the collective agenda.
“Strong regional cooperation, institutional reforms, and people-centred policies are essential for building a safer, more prosperous, and united Nigeria,” the statement quoted him as saying.
Soludo’s meeting with the president reflects both the cordial federal-state relations and the broader effort by southern leaders to coordinate regional responses to security and governance challenges.
With rising security threats across Nigeria, the coordinated efforts of southern governors and their collaboration with the federal government are seen as critical steps toward addressing persistent challenges.
