Tinubu hails FCT minister, says ‘You have not disappointed me’

President Bola Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as his outstanding performance in accelerating infrastructure development across Abuja, saying the minister has fully justified the confidence reposed in him since his appointment.

The president gave the commendation on Friday during the inauguration of Collector Road CN2, also known as Emmanuel Okanla Boulevard, and other road projects in the Katampe District of the Federal Capital Territory, highlighting the projects as evidence of his administration’s commitment to delivering tangible development to Nigerians.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the commissioning ceremony, Tinubu praised Wike’s efforts in transforming the nation’s capital through the execution of critical infrastructure projects.

He said the minister’s achievements reflected the administration’s determination to improve the quality of life for residents through strategic investments in roads, public utilities, and urban development initiatives.

The president noted that Wike’s track record before his appointment influenced the decision to entrust him with the responsibility of managing the affairs of the FCT. According to him, the minister has exceeded expectations by consistently delivering projects and addressing key infrastructural challenges across the territory without excuses or delays.

“When I gave him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital city, I knew his track record. Wike, you have not disappointed Mr President. From transforming abandoned roads into new boulevards to delivering water projects and judicial quarters, you work day and night. You do not give excuses. You give results. The people of the FCT call you ‘Mr Project’ for a reason,” Tinubu said.

The commendation came as the FCT Administration continued its ongoing project commissioning exercise, which has witnessed the inauguration of several infrastructure projects across different parts of the territory. The administration says the projects are aimed at improving connectivity, boosting economic activities, and enhancing the overall urban landscape of the capital city.

Tinubu described the newly completed Katampe road as a clear demonstration of governance translated into visible results. He said infrastructure development remains a key component of his administration’s agenda and stressed that citizens should be able to see and experience the benefits of government policies through improved public facilities and services.

The president also highlighted the impact of solar-powered street lighting installations along major roads within Abuja. He said the initiative had enhanced security, improved nighttime visibility, and contributed to the revival of social and economic activities in various parts of the city.

“We have installed solar street lights, and today, Katampe is bright at night. Abuja’s city life is coming back, and criminal hideouts are disappearing. This is exactly what good governance delivers: security, mobility and dignity,” he said.

According to Tinubu, the road project represents more than physical infrastructure, describing it as a symbol of hope and a reflection of the progress being made under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He maintained that the administration remains focused on delivering projects that directly impact citizens and support national development.

Speaking at the event, Wike explained that the Katampe road project emerged from efforts to address a critical gap in the district’s transportation network. He recalled that after the completion and commissioning of the Gishiri road and the bridge linking Maitama last year, authorities identified the absence of a connecting route in the area and immediately initiated plans to bridge the gap.
