Tinubu dismisses opposition coalition, intimidation, vows to continue reforms

President Bola Tinubu has dismissed concerns over what he described as a growing political alliance among opposition parties, insisting that no coalition would intimidate or derail his administration’s agenda.

He reaffirmed his commitment to governance and national development, stating that he remains focused on delivering reforms despite political pushback.

The president made the remarks on Thursday while hosting members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Abuja.

He specifically referenced the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other opposition figures, maintaining that efforts to unseat his administration would not succeed. Tinubu urged political actors to respect democratic institutions and adhere strictly to the rule of law, particularly judicial pronouncements.

He also used the occasion to call for national unity, stressing that Nigeria’s progress depends on collective responsibility and adherence to democratic principles. According to him, his administration will continue to promote stability, economic recovery, and institutional strengthening despite criticism or resistance from opposition groups.

Tinubu, in his address, warned against what he termed political intimidation and disregard for lawful court orders. He insisted that democracy must be guided by respect for the judiciary and the principle of separation of powers, noting that no individual or group is above the law.

“I’m grateful to all of you. This is an opportunity of a lifetime to break the shackles of poverty and ignorance, to put freedom in the hearts of our people, to ensure democracy survives. Not the noise-making, not the rascality of a street convention,” he said.

He further stated that the opposition must learn to accept judicial outcomes, whether favourable or not, as part of democratic practice. According to him, adherence to court rulings remains essential for national cohesion and institutional credibility.

“We will not submit to noise, rascality, or disobedience to lawful court orders. We must embrace the judiciary, whether it favours us or not,” the president added.

Tinubu emphasised that his administration remains committed to building a unified nation driven by a shared vision of progress and prosperity. He called on supporters of his government to continue promoting the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda across the country.

“There is no other way on the path that we embrace to national greatness than to build one nation, one common vision for progress and prosperity of our people,” he said.

Addressing members of the Renewed Hope ambassadors, the president urged them to remain steadfast in promoting government policies and inspiring public confidence in ongoing reforms.

He also reassured Nigerians that despite economic and political challenges, his administration is committed to long-term development. He noted that governance requires resilience and continuity, adding that difficult decisions are sometimes necessary for national progress.

On the state of the economy, the president acknowledged existing hardships, but maintained that reforms are ongoing to stabilise key sectors. He referenced past administrations, including that of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing governance as a continuous process requiring sustained effort.

Tinubu also reiterated that he would not be discouraged by criticism or political pressure. He insisted that his focus remains on delivering results that would positively impact citizens and strengthen national infrastructure.

“They want to scare me off. It is a lie. I have been through this path before, and if I have to come back over and over again, I will do the same thing,” he said.

The president further encouraged his supporters to remain committed to the administration’s vision, assuring them that his government would not abandon its responsibilities. He concluded by reaffirming his dedication to national development and his determination to see through ongoing reforms despite opposition challenges.
