Tinubu appoints Ida as CAC chairman, nominates seven NPC commissioners, names Bello special adviser

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of former Katsina Central senator, Dr Ibrahim Ida, as chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), alongside the nomination of seven individuals as federal commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC), in a move aimed at strengthening key government institutions.

The presidency also confirmed the appointment of Bala Mohammed Bello as Special Adviser on Political Economy, as part of broader efforts to reinforce economic policy coordination and governance reforms across federal agencies.

The announcements were contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the appointments and nominations are subject to confirmation by the National Assembly, in line with statutory requirements governing such positions. The presidency said the selections reflect ongoing efforts to enhance institutional capacity and improve service delivery within critical sectors of government.

Dr Ibrahim Ida, the newly appointed CAC chairman, previously represented Katsina Central in the Senate between 2017 and 2023. He is expected to bring his extensive background in public service and finance to bear on the operations of the commission.

He holds a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Ibadan and a Law degree from the University of Abuja.

Before his tenure in the National Assembly, Ida served as Commissioner of Finance in Katsina State and later as a permanent secretary in the Federal Civil Service, roles that provided him with considerable administrative and policy experience relevant to his new assignment.

In addition, President Tinubu nominated seven individuals to fill vacant commissioner positions at the NPC, representing different states across the country. The nominees include Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi (Ekiti), Nasiru Mu’azu (Zamfara), Usman Abubakar Tuggar (Bauchi), Dr. Isaka Alada Yahaya (Kwara), Prof. Sadiq Isah Radda (Katsina), Suleiman Umar (Jigawa), and Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo (Sokoto).

The presidency explained that the nominations are intended to complete the composition of the commission and strengthen its operational effectiveness, particularly in the execution of its mandate relating to population data collection and management, which is critical for national planning and development.

President Tinubu also approved the appointment of Dr Yusuf Mohammed from Kano State as chairman of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo. The appointment is expected to contribute to improved leadership and administrative oversight within the institution.

Furthermore, the appointment of Bala Mohammed Bello as Special Adviser on Political Economy was highlighted as a strategic addition to the administration’s economic advisory team.

Bello, an indigene of Taraba State, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Prior to his new role, Bello served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and was also Executive Director (Corporate Services) at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank between 2017 and 2022.

His experience in financial regulation and economic management is expected to support the administration’s policy direction.

The presidency stated that all the appointments underscore the administration’s confidence in the capacity of the appointees to contribute meaningfully to governance, institutional reform, and national development.

President Tinubu expressed optimism that the new appointees would justify the trust placed in them and support efforts to improve the welfare and living standards of Nigerians.
