President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 individuals into the boards and leadership of 10 federal government agencies and commissions, with former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose named Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
The appointments, which take immediate effect, were announced in a statement issued on Monday by the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The appointments form part of the Federal Government’s effort to strengthen the leadership of key public institutions responsible for implementing national policies and delivering essential services.
Among the prominent appointments is that of Fayose, who will chair the board of the Rural Electrification Agency, while retired Major General Junaid Bindawa has been named chairman of the National Salary and Wages Commission.
According to the presidency, the appointments involve experienced public officials and professionals expected to provide strategic direction in their respective institutions.
The Presidency disclosed that Fayose will lead the board of the Rural Electrification Agency alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who were appointed as members and non-executive directors of the agency.
The statement further clarified that the agency’s current Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, will remain on the board alongside three executive directors who had been appointed earlier, completing the composition of the REA leadership.
In addition to Major General Bindawa’s appointment, the president approved eight other appointments into the National Salary and Wages Commission to strengthen its leadership and operational capacity.
Among those appointed is former member of the House of Representatives from Lagos State, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, who will serve as the secretary of the commission.
The statement also announced the appointment of Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian as commissioner representing Benue State, Oladele Olatubosun as commissioner representing Oyo State, and Yakubu Umar Barde as commissioner representing Kaduna State.
Other members appointed into the commission include Dr Mai Adamu Yau from Borno State, Ginika Florence Tor from Enugu State, Engineer Lawrence Okoh from Edo State and Bello Morenike Iyabode from Kogi State.
