Nigerian singer Spyro has revealed the personal principles guiding his music career, stating that he does not allow smoking, nudity, or explicit content in any music video or project he is involved in.
The singer made the disclosure during a recent interview on TVC, where he explained that his decisions are driven by his Christian faith and remain non-negotiable for anyone seeking to collaborate with him.
Speaking during the interview, Spyro said he has established clear rules for everyone he works with, insisting that his videos must reflect the values he stands for.
According to him, anyone appearing in his productions must adhere to those standards, regardless of their status in the entertainment industry.
The singer also stressed that he rejects collaborations on songs containing inappropriate or unclean content, maintaining that the message conveyed through his music is just as important as the sound itself. He said he carefully selects the projects he associates with because he wants his work to remain consistent with his beliefs.
“You can’t be in a video with me and you’re smoking. That can’t happen. You can’t be in a video with me and you’re naked. That won’t happen. I have rules and regulations to working with people,” Spyro said.
“I can’t be on a song that is not clean, to start with,” he added.
Spyro also shared an experience involving his collaboration with rising music star Shoday on the song ‘Sweet’. He recalled contacting the younger artiste after noticing what he described as an inappropriate style of promoting the song, saying he felt compelled to encourage him to embrace Christianity.
According to Spyro, he advised Shoday to give his life to Christ during their conversation. However, he said the singer responded by telling him that each of them should continue pursuing their respective paths for the time being.
Despite that response, Spyro said he remains optimistic that Shoday and many others within the entertainment industry will eventually embrace the Christian faith. He described the process as gradual and said he believes his presence in the Nigerian music industry is part of a larger purpose centred on influencing lives positively.
Known for hit songs such as ‘Who Is Your Guy’, Spyro has consistently projected himself as one of the Nigerian music industry’s most outspoken faith-driven artistes.
