Lifestyle content creator Simi Sanya has disclosed that her cooking skills remain limited even after getting married, revealing that she only prepares a few simple meals for her husband.
Speaking during an interview on Talk Your Talk, Sanya said her husband has never had an issue with her limited cooking abilities because she was honest about them before they got married.
Sharing her experience, she said, “Like now, in my marriage, I only know how to cook spaghetti, yam and egg, bread and tea, and the boy has known, and he has not fought me since I got married, and he has been eating the spaghetti with all goodness of his heart. Did he die? No.”
Sanya also rejected the belief that girlfriends should be expected to cook for their partners simply because they are dating. According to her, such expectations should not automatically come with a relationship, especially if they were never discussed or agreed upon from the outset.
She stressed the importance of openness and setting clear expectations rather than assuming responsibilities based on societal norms.
The content creator explained that honesty played a key role in her relationship before marriage, noting that she never pretended to possess culinary skills she did not have.
By being upfront with her partner, she said they entered marriage with a clear understanding of each other’s strengths and limitations, eliminating the possibility of disappointment over domestic expectations.
Expressing her views during the conversation, Sanya questioned why a woman should be expected to spend weekends cooking at her boyfriend’s house simply because they are in a relationship. She maintained that such arrangements should only happen if both individuals had mutually agreed to them and not because society expects women to take on that role.
“You can’t tell me to come to your house over the weekend and be cooking for you because we are in a relationship. Was that the plan? No. Didn’t I tell you before?” she said.
Sanya went on to reveal that even after marriage, her list of meals has remained relatively short. According to her, she can only prepare spaghetti, yam, and egg, as well as bread and tea, adding that her husband has accepted the situation without conflict.
