Nigerian singer and songwriter Simisola Kosoko, widely known as Simi, has revealed that her health struggles and pregnancy were the main reasons the release of her collaboration with Chike, titled ‘Where You Dey’, was postponed.
The track, which was initially teased last year, could not meet its intended launch schedule as Simi faced fatigue, nausea, and general weakness that hampered both recording and promotion.
The singer described the physical strain she experienced as making it extremely challenging to complete the project on time.
In a statement shared on her X (formerly Twitter) page on Friday, Simi explained that her body “would not do what she wanted it to,” making even the filming of the snippet video a difficult task.
She emphasised that despite the delays, her determination to complete the song remained unwavering.
Simi also praised Chike for his professionalism during the collaboration, noting that he promptly joined her in the studio after returning from a trip, unaware of her health condition.
Beyond health issues, Simi disclosed that she personally handled the mixing and mastering of the song, despite disliking the mastering process.
“Watching this video back now, I can’t even understand where the energy came from… Even so, I decided to master it myself. I hate mastering, so I don’t know what I was thinking,” she admitted.
Her explanation also aimed to address lingering claims that she had sidelined her music career for marriage and pregnancy. She urged fans to recognise the effort and resilience involved in completing the project under such circumstances.
The singer stressed that her priority was delivering a high-quality record rather than rushing its release, showing a strong commitment to both her craft and her audience.
