Street-pop singer Portable and actor Charles Okocha will renew their celebrity boxing rivalry on July 31 as they square off in a highly anticipated rematch at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The contest, announced by Balmoral Promotions and branded ‘Unfinished Business’, will give both entertainers another opportunity to settle their long-running feud, with Okocha seeking redemption after losing their first encounter and Portable aiming to bounce back from his recent defeat to Carter Efe.
Balmoral Promotions confirmed the bout in an announcement shared on Instagram, describing the event as a night dedicated to resolving unfinished rivalries inside the ring.
In addition to the headline clash between Portable and Okocha, the fight card will feature another contest between Agbaje and Musa, with organisers promising an action-packed evening for boxing fans and entertainment enthusiasts alike.
Announcing the event, the promoters declared: “Africa, the stage is set. Now, we settle the score. Portable. Charles Okocha. Agbaje. Musa. Four fighters. One ring. No more talk.”
The announcement has renewed interest in one of Nigeria’s most talked-about celebrity boxing rivalries, which has continued to generate attention both inside and outside the sporting arena.
The rematch comes at a significant moment for Portable, who recently suffered the first defeat of his celebrity boxing career. During Chaos in the Ring 4, staged at the Balmoral Hall of the Federal Palace Hotel, the singer lost to popular streamer Carter Efe via a unanimous 30-27 decision after three rounds. The defeat ended his unbeaten record in celebrity boxing and saw him surrender the title he had previously defended successfully.
Before that loss, Portable had established himself as one of the leading figures in Nigeria’s celebrity boxing scene, recording victories over both Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington. Those wins earned him two celebrity boxing belts and strengthened his reputation as one of the competition’s dominant personalities.
The rivalry between Portable and Okocha dates back to 2023 when the singer publicly accused the actor of cheating him out of about N40 million in a business transaction. What began as a heated disagreement on social media eventually escalated into a physical contest inside the boxing ring, attracting widespread public attention.
Their first fight took place at Landmark Beach in Victoria Island, Lagos, where both men battled through four rounds. Portable controlled the opening round with aggressive attacks, while Okocha responded with a stronger performance in the second. As the contest progressed, fatigue became evident, and by the fourth round both fighters declined to continue. Portable was subsequently declared the winner and awarded the championship belt.
Okocha, however, has never accepted the outcome of that contest, insisting that the result did not accurately reflect the fight. Since then, the actor has repeatedly called for another opportunity to face Portable, maintaining that a rematch was necessary to determine the rightful winner.
The July 31 showdown now offers Okocha the chance to pursue the victory he believes eluded him in their first meeting, while Portable will be looking to restore his standing after losing his unbeaten record to Carter Efe. With both men entering the ring carrying personal and competitive motivations, the rematch is expected to be one of the headline attractions on Nigeria’s celebrity boxing calendar.
