Phyna defends Brazilian butt lift surgery, says critics would do the same if they had financial means

Reality TV star Phyna has defended her decision to undergo a Brazilian butt lift (BBL), insisting that much of the criticism directed at her cosmetic surgery is driven by financial limitations rather than genuine disapproval of body enhancement procedures.

The former Big Brother Naija winner made the remarks during a live session on Twitch, where she addressed the ongoing public debate surrounding celebrity cosmetic surgery choices.

According to Phyna, many of those criticising her transformation would likely opt for similar procedures if they had the financial means.

She said that economic reality plays a major role in shaping public opinion on cosmetic enhancements, suggesting that access to money often changes how individuals perceive body modification decisions.

She further maintained that people tend to judge celebrities harshly for undergoing cosmetic surgery, yet the same individuals might make similar choices if they were in a stronger financial position.

Phyna emphasised that the issue is not necessarily about morality or self-acceptance, but about affordability and opportunity, stating that wealth often influences lifestyle decisions, including surgery.

During her livestream, Phyna said, “You always say once someone wins Big Brother or goes on the show, they start doing things to their body. My dear, if you had money, do you know what you would do? Imagine you had ₦20 million, you’re not even using, as a woman, you would go and have surgery.”

She continued by addressing critics more directly, adding that many people misunderstand the motivations behind cosmetic procedures.

“Don’t let anybody deceive you. It’s because you are broke. Even me, I admit it’s because of money. It’s nothing else, I swear to God, I won’t lie to you. Right now, your thinking is clouded. You’re wondering, ‘Why are they doing this?’ My sister, it’s the money you don’t have that’s why you’re criticising it. Don’t worry, if money comes your way, you will do it too,” she stated.

Phyna, who rose to fame after winning Big Brother Naija, has remained a prominent figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, often generating public discussion around her personal choices and public statements.

Her latest comments come amid ongoing debates on social media about the increasing trend of cosmetic surgery among celebrities and influencers, particularly within the reality television space.

While some fans have supported her openness about financial motivation behind her surgery, others continue to question the normalisation of cosmetic enhancements and the pressure it may place on young audiences.

The discussion reflects a broader cultural conversation about body image, celebrity influence, and the growing accessibility of aesthetic procedures in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.Reality TV star Phyna has defended her decision to undergo a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), insisting that much of the criticism directed at her cosmetic surgery is driven by financial limitations rather than genuine disapproval of body enhancement procedures.
