Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has revealed that the government sent ₦500,000 to an ailing colleague a week after he appealed for financial assistance during an interview at his residence in Enugu.
The actor’s account was shared alongside a video of the interview, which was published on X by an account identified as Proper9ja Boy on October 8, 2026.
Edochie recounted the experience while speaking about his interactions with political leaders, explaining that his appeal produced a positive response within seven days.
According to the veteran actor, the financial assistance was provided after he publicly called on the government to intervene in the situation of his colleague, who was battling an illness.
The actor, however, did not disclose the identity of the beneficiary or specify the government responsible for the payment.
Recounting how he intervened on behalf of the ailing colleague, Edochie said, “During that period, one of my colleagues was ill, so I used that opportunity to call on the government to come help him. The following week, the government sent him half a million naira,” he said.
Edochie also spoke about his relationship with Nigeria’s political leaders, attributing his confidence in addressing them directly to his age and life experience. He said he regarded such interactions as conversations between a father and his children rather than encounters that required him to remain silent because of their political positions.
“I’m older than all the governors and president, so when I talk to them, it’s like a father talking to a son,” the actor said.
The revelation has also brought renewed attention to the welfare of veteran performers in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, particularly those who may struggle to meet medical expenses when illness prevents them from working regularly.
