Peller says he spent days without food, bathing in detention after Lagos arrest

Nigerian TikToker and streamer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, has opened up about his time in police custody, revealing that he spent almost four days in detention without bathing or eating after his arrest in Lagos.

The 21-year-old content creator shared the details shortly after regaining his freedom, describing the experience as one of the most difficult moments of his life and saying it had changed his outlook.

Peller was arrested on Friday in the Lekki area of Lagos following a confrontation with police officers over a tinted vehicle that reportedly had no number plate.

In the footage, Peller accused the officers of harassing him, alleging that they pulled his shirt and pointed a gun at his head before taking him into custody. He also maintained that he had only recently acquired the vehicle at the centre of the dispute.

Following his arrest, Peller was arraigned on Tuesday alongside a co-defendant, Bello Oladipo, before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court. The pair faced a three-count charge bordering on obstruction of police officers, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The court subsequently granted Peller bail in the sum of ₦500,000, bringing his four-day detention to an end.

Speaking through a series of posts on his Snapchat account after his release, the social media personality said the experience left him physically exhausted and emotionally shaken. He disclosed that he had never spent time in a police cell before and admitted that the days in detention took a noticeable toll on his appearance and well-being.

“I am ugly now. I can’t show my face yet. I slept in a cell for almost four days. It has never happened to me before in my life,” he wrote while recounting his ordeal.

According to Peller, some of the inmates recognised him during his stay in custody and jokingly referred to him as “001.”

Despite the attention from fellow detainees, he said he endured the period without proper meals or personal hygiene.

The TikToker said the experience had made him more cautious about his actions going forward. He explained that his focus is now on avoiding any situation that could lead to further trouble, especially as he prepares for his forthcoming wedding.

He stated that thoughts of his wedding remained his biggest motivation after regaining his freedom, adding that he intends to stay away from controversies and move carefully in the future.

Peller also suggested that he plans to relocate abroad after the wedding.
