Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has explained why he is unfamiliar with Nigerian entertainers Don Jazzy, Carter Efe and Poco Lee, during a lighthearted conversation with comedian Isbae U on the podcast Curiosity Made Me Ask.
The exchange, released on Saturday, saw Obasanjo respond to questions about his knowledge of some of the country’s most recognisable contemporary entertainment personalities.
Isbae U first asked Obasanjo if he knew Carter Efe and Poco Lee, but the former president indicated that he did not know either of them. When the comedian mentioned Don Jazzy, Obasanjo’s reaction briefly changed before he explained that the difference was largely a matter of the circles in which they moved.
The former president’s response generated laughter during the interview, particularly as Isbae U suggested that the entertainers could know Obasanjo even if he was not familiar with them.
Obasanjo countered the suggestion by pointing out that people known to the comedian were not necessarily the same people known to him.
The conversation then shifted from contemporary Nigerian entertainers to prominent international figures Obasanjo said he knew personally.
He mentioned the late Queen Elizabeth II, recalling that he had received her during her visit to Nigeria, and also identified King Charles III among the people he knew.
Obasanjo further recalled an encounter involving King Charles, saying he had been received by him at his farm in Wales.
The discussion followed an earlier part of the interview in which Isbae U spoke about having an international audience. Obasanjo teased the comedian over his reported viewers in the United Kingdom and United States, despite the conversation indicating that Isbae U had not travelled to either country.
The exchange was part of the satirical format of Curiosity Made Me Ask, a podcast known for putting guests through humorous and sometimes provocative questions. The programme has featured a range of Nigerian personalities from entertainment and sports to other areas of public life.
Since its launch in December 2023, the podcast has featured personalities including veteran actors Pete Edochie and Jide Kosoko, actress Kate Henshaw, musicians Odumodublvck and Bella Shmurda, footballer Victor Boniface, comedian Bovi, as well as Bobrisky, James Brown and Tacha.
