Veteran Nollywood actor and film producer, Solomon Akiyesi, has passed away. His death was confirmed on Monday by the president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Abubakar Yakubu, who disclosed the development in a statement to The Cable.
According to Yakubu, the actor died under sudden circumstances, having reportedly gone to bed and not woken up. He added that Akiyesi’s remains have been deposited in a morgue in Abuja, where the incident occurred, pending further arrangements by the family.
The AGN president noted that the guild is awaiting additional information from the deceased’s relatives to clarify the circumstances surrounding his passing. The unexpected nature of his death has left colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders in shock.
Akiyesi, who hailed from Ososo in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, began his acting career in the late 1990s and went on to become a familiar face in Nollywood productions. Over the course of his career, he featured in more than 100 films, earning recognition for his versatility and consistency across different genres.
His filmography includes notable titles such as ‘Marry Who You Love’, ‘Kiss My Pain’, ‘Joy of Nakasha’, ‘Heart of a Saint’, ‘Deadly Affair’, ‘Gen Z Wife’, ‘Olaedo The Fisher Girl’, ‘Pretty Liars’, ‘The End Is Near’, and ‘Desperate Ladies’. These roles helped cement his reputation as a dependable performer capable of delivering compelling portrayals in both lead and supporting roles.
Beyond acting, Akiyesi was also involved in film production, contributing to the growth and development of the Nigerian movie industry behind the scenes. His body of work reflects the evolution of Nollywood over the past two decades, during which the industry expanded its reach locally and internationally.
