Senator Ned Nwoko

Ned Nwoko defends polygamy amid alleged marital crisis with Regina Daniels

Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, has stirred public debate after declaring that he feels sorry for men married to only one wife, arguing that polygamy provides men with greater balance and stability.

Nwoko made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday. The senator, known for his controversial views and high-profile marriage to Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, likened monogamy to “standing on one leg.”

“Every man should do that. Marry more than one wife. Just imagine telling you to stand on one leg. You know how difficult it is. But to stand on two, three, four is much more balanced. That’s just the example I give. So, I feel sorry for those who have one wife because it’s difficult to stand on one leg,” Nwoko said.

When asked whether he had any regrets about being polygamous, the senator replied firmly, “No, no, no. I will do the same thing again. Of course, that’s the way it should be. You should marry who you want to marry.”

Responding to critics who cited the Bible’s opposition to polygamy, Nwoko argued that the Old Testament supports it, insisting that his belief is consistent with his faith.

“The Old Testament does. I am a man of faith. But that’s not what we are here for,” he said.

However, his comments come at a time of escalating tension in his marriage to actress Regina Daniels. The actress recently sparked public concern after she appeared in a viral video on October 18, tearfully alleging domestic violence.

“In Ned Nwoko’s house, I am nothing, but in my own house, I am a Queen. Not again. I can’t stand the violence. It’s too much,” Daniels lamented in the footage shared on social media.

Shortly after, Daniels flaunted a newly acquired mansion on her Instagram page with the caption, “In my house, I am a Queen! I needed a roof over my head, so I got this for me and my family.”

The post, which many interpreted as a subtle dig at her husband, came amid rumours of marital separation.

When confronted with the allegations of marital abuse during the Channels TV interview, Nwoko dismissed them outright. “No, come on. You know I am not a violent person. I respect my wives. I love them and my kids,” he stated.

This is not the first time Nwoko’s marriage to Daniels has been a subject of public discourse. Earlier in the year, rumours surfaced about alleged disagreements between the couple, prompting the businessman-politician to issue statements debunking reports of domestic conflict.

In 2023, Nwoko also defended polygamy in a separate interview, describing it as a natural and cultural practice that reduces infidelity among men. He argued that monogamy, in his view, often leads to social imbalance and emotional instability.

Regina Daniels, who rose to fame as a child actress, married Nwoko in 2019 at the age of 19. The union, which produced two children, initially drew widespread criticism but was later seen by many as one of Nollywood’s most glamorous celebrity marriages until recent tensions surfaced.
