Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that the unwavering support of his family has been the foundation that helped him navigate public scandals, personal challenges, and the devastating loss of his child.
The award-winning singer said his brothers, sisters, and father have consistently stood by him during the most difficult periods of his life, offering emotional strength whenever he faced adversity.
Speaking during an interview with Vibe Q, the 30BG boss described his relatives as the first people to reach out whenever negative situations arise. According to him, their constant encouragement and willingness to stand beside him have played a significant role in helping him remain resilient despite the pressures that come with fame and life in the public eye.
Davido also reflected on one of the darkest moments of his life, recalling how his family rallied around him following the death of his child. He said they remained with him throughout his grieving process until he gradually regained emotional stability, adding that their continued presence has made a lasting impact on his recovery and personal growth.
“My family has been the only one helping me through scandals & problems. My brothers and sisters and my father are always the first to call me when something bad happens,” the singer said during the interview.
Recalling the painful loss of his child, Davido explained that the experience changed him deeply and left him emotionally broken. However, he credited his family for refusing to leave his side during that difficult chapter of his life.
“When I lost my child they stayed with me till I was fine,” he said.
The singer added that watching him perform again has become an emotional experience for his loved ones because they understand the depth of the pain he endured before gradually returning to music and public life.
“They are always happy seeing me perform because they know how broken I was when I lost my child,” he stated.
Davido further disclosed that the care and concern from his family have remained constant even long after the tragedy. According to him, they regularly check on his wellbeing regardless of whether he reaches out to them first, demonstrating the strong bond they share.
“Even the days I don’t call them they always call in to check up on me. Family should not be played with,” he added.
The singer noted that having a dependable support system has been one of the greatest blessings throughout his career, especially as he continues to deal with public scrutiny, controversies and the demands of being one of Africa’s biggest music stars. He suggested that genuine family support has helped him maintain his focus despite the emotional and professional challenges that have come his way.
