Skitmaker and activist Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has revealed that he went through one of the most difficult periods of his life in recent years, including struggling to secure financial assistance and reaching a point where he almost gave up, before an unnamed individual repeatedly helped him settle his debts.
Mr Macaroni made the disclosure while reacting to a wave of testimonies about his acts of kindness after veteran actor Peter Fatomilola publicly praised his generosity.
Fatomilola had recounted how the skitmaker gave him N200,000 for fuel after a movie shoot in Ibadan, despite receiving only N50,000 for the job, and later paid him N1 million for a single scene featuring him alongside veteran actor Pete Edochie.
The actor’s account prompted several people to share their own experiences of receiving assistance from Mr Macaroni.
In a reaction posted on his X handle, the skitmaker said he broke down in tears while reading the messages because he could not remember many of the acts of kindness people attributed to him. He said the experience made him reflect on the need to be more grateful to God for helping him through difficult periods.
Mr Macaroni explained that he had become accustomed to giving rather than receiving because people often assumed he had enough resources to meet his needs.
He also acknowledged that he had always found it difficult to ask others for help and said that, whenever he borrowed money, he usually repaid it with interest even when the lender had not requested it.
According to him, the situation changed during the past few years when he faced difficulties he said he struggled to understand. He disclosed that he sought assistance from various sources and eventually reached a point where he was close to giving up.
An individual whose identity he declined to reveal later stepped in and helped him settle his outstanding debts, with the support continuing on multiple occasions.
The skitmaker expressed gratitude to the unnamed benefactor, saying the assistance restored his hope when he believed everything was over. He also acknowledged that he may have taken the person’s kindness for granted and said he would remain indebted to the individual for the support received during the difficult period.
Mr Macaroni also thanked his close circle, Mr Macaroni & Friends, for standing by him when he needed support. He specifically appreciated music executive Don Jazzy, whom he said had supported him since his university days, as well as footballer Victor Osimhen and Pastor Bolaji for their consistent support over the years.
Reflecting on the experience, Mr Macaroni said he was now in a better place and was learning and engaging in activities that made him happy. He maintained that he did not regret helping people, even in small ways, but said the challenges of recent years had taught him important lessons and given him greater clarity.
He concluded by expressing gratitude for the trials he had experienced and called for love to remain stronger than hatred, thanking those who supported him during a period he described as one of the hardest moments of his life.
