Nigerian-born, Canada-based Juju music artiste, Sayo Ojofeitimi Omo Alade Ogo, popularly known as Mr Doxology, has marked 25 years on stage alongside his birthday, describing the milestone as a deeply emotional moment of gratitude, reflection, and cultural pride.
The veteran musician said the achievement represents decades of dedication to live band music and the preservation of Yoruba musical heritage.
Speaking on his journey, Mr Doxology reflected on the challenges he has faced over the years, describing his career path as one shaped by resilience, spiritual endurance, and perseverance.
He noted that his rise in the music industry was not without difficulties, but credited his faith and determination for sustaining him through moments of hardship.
He expressed gratitude for how far he has come despite the struggles encountered along the way.
His early exposure to music began in childhood, rooted in a strong spiritual and cultural upbringing.
At around the age of eight, he joined his local church choir, becoming its youngest member at the time. This early involvement introduced him to structured musical training and laid the foundation for his lifelong passion for performance. He was also heavily influenced by his late uncle, Ajanaku Ojofeitimi, a professional musician and choir leader with The Apostolic Church in Ibadan, Oyo State, whose guidance played a significant role in shaping his musical identity.
During his formative years, Mr Doxology frequently accompanied his uncle to live gospel performances in Ilesa, Osun State.
Those experiences, he said, deepened his appreciation for live band music and helped shape his artistic direction. The exposure to traditional and gospel fusion performances became a defining factor in his decision to pursue Juju music professionally, a genre deeply rooted in Yoruba cultural expression.
His professional music career officially began in 2000 when he started performing live as a vocalist, having earlier served as a lead singer at Eternal Live Evangelical Ministries.
Following a turning point in his church experience, he established Alade Ogo Music, which initially started as a prayer group before evolving into a full live band.
Though he gained modest recognition in Ilesa during his early years, his breakthrough came in 2007 after he acquired personal musical equipment, allowing him greater independence and performance capacity just before his relocation to Canada.
Since moving to Canada, Mr Doxology has continued to build his brand within the diaspora music scene, promoting Juju music and Yoruba cultural heritage to international audiences.
His efforts were formally recognised in 2022 when he won the Best Band of the Year award at the Leads Awards in Canada, an achievement he described as a validation of his consistency and cultural advocacy abroad.
Over the years, he has positioned himself as a cultural ambassador for Juju music, using his platform to preserve and promote indigenous Nigerian sounds. He emphasised that his mission goes beyond entertainment, focusing instead on cultural education and identity preservation for younger generations within and outside Nigeria.
As he celebrates 25 years of musical service, Mr Doxology says he remains committed to his craft, expressing optimism about the future of Juju music and its global relevance.
He added that his journey so far stands as a testament to resilience, faith, and the enduring power of cultural expression.
