KieKie reveals she lived with husband four months before wedding to avoid paying rent

Popular Nigerian actress and skit maker Oluwabukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, widely known as KieKie, has disclosed that she cohabited with her husband for four months prior to their wedding, driven purely by financial practicality rather than romance.

The comedian and content creator made this revelation during a recent interview with media personality, Toke Makinwa, where she explained that the decision to move in early saved her from the unnecessary expense of renewing her apartment lease.

KieKie clarified that she was fully aware people might judge her choice, but she remained unapologetic, prioritising common sense over societal expectations.

According to KieKie, the couple had already completed their traditional introduction rites and were actively preparing for their white wedding, which was scheduled for January of the following year.

When her rent expired during the waiting period, she faced a simple financial calculation: renew her lease for another year at considerable cost, or move in with her fiancé for just four months until the wedding. She chose the latter.

The actress admitted that the church was completely unaware of their living arrangement at the time, adding an interesting layer to the revelation, as she continued to sing in the church choir throughout that period.

“Before my husband and I got married, we lived together for about four months. My rent had expired, and we were getting married in January, so I said to myself, ‘Why pay another rent?’” KieKie recounted during the interview.

“People might judge it, but I wasn’t going to waste money. We had already done our introduction. The church didn’t know about it, and I used to sing in church at that time,” she remarked, laughing at the irony of the situation.

Her confession highlights a growing trend among young Nigerian couples who are increasingly prioritising financial wisdom over traditional religious or cultural prescriptions regarding premarital cohabitation.

The revelation has since sparked conversations on social media, with many applauding KieKie for her honesty and practical approach to marriage preparation.

Others, however, have questioned whether the church would have sanctioned the wedding had the leadership known about the arrangement beforehand.

KieKie, who has consistently kept her husband off social media and maintained a boundary between her private and public life, appears unfazed by potential criticism.
