Afrobeats superstar Davido has declared that he believes he could win any election in Nigeria, including the presidency, if the country’s electoral process was genuinely free and fair.
The award-winning singer made the statement during a recent livestream with online streamer Carter Efe, where he explained that his confidence stems from his widespread popularity but insisted he has no plans to venture into politics at this time.
The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, said his reluctance to seek elective office is rooted in his lack of confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
According to him, concerns about election manipulation discourage him from pursuing a political career, despite believing he enjoys enough public support to emerge victorious in a transparent contest.
Davido maintained that he would rather continue focusing on his music career than participate in an electoral process he does not fully trust. He stressed that he would only consider politics if elections were conducted in a manner that guaranteed fairness, transparency, and credibility for every contestant.
“Nobody could beat me in any election,” Davido stated, before adding that he could even win Nigeria’s presidential election under the right electoral conditions.
The music star further explained that he is not someone who would quietly accept what he believes to be an unfair outcome if election results were manipulated. For that reason, he said he prefers to stay away from active politics rather than risk participating in a system he believes lacks complete transparency.
He also disclosed that he has been closely following political developments ahead of the forthcoming Osun State governorship election. While he did not announce any political ambition, he suggested that recent developments have left many Nigerians questioning the credibility of the country’s democratic process.
Despite the online debate generated by his remarks, Davido reiterated that music remains his primary focus.
