Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has explained why his Christian faith remains firmly centred on Jesus Christ despite his strong association with Igbo culture and tradition.
The actor said that his belief is influenced by the biblical account of Jesus walking on water.
Edochie made the remarks during an interview with media personality Isbae U, who questioned him about his faith and why he does not worship traditional deities such as Amadioha.
Responding to the question, Edochie said he acknowledged the existence of traditional gods but maintained that his personal faith remains in Jesus Christ.
“I recognise all those other gods, but I believe in Jesus. Jesus walked on water, why should I leave the One who walked on water and believe those other ones who didn’t?” Edochie said.
The actor’s comments came during a discussion that explored the relationship between his Christian faith and his visible attachment to Igbo cultural values.
Edochie has long been publicly associated with traditional Igbo identity, making the question about his religious beliefs a notable part of the interview.
During the interview, he made it clear that his familiarity with indigenous religious traditions does not translate into worship of the deities associated with them.
