Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has appointed Nollywood actresses Eucharia Anunobi and Rachael Okonkwo as political aides in the state government, bringing the two entertainment personalities into public service in roles focused on women mobilisation and creative industry development.
The appointments were among 101 new appointments approved by Mbah and announced by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia.
The appointments comprise seven special advisers, six senior special assistants and 88 special assistants across different areas of government.
Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Film and Creative Industry Development. She is expected to focus on issues connected to the development of the film and creative sector in Enugu State under her new role.
Okonkwo is known for her work in Nollywood, particularly her role in the popular Nkoli Nwa Nsukka film series, which earned her the nickname by which she is widely recognised. She hails from Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State and has built her acting career within the Nigerian film industry.
Veteran actress Eucharia Anunobi was also appointed by Governor Mbah, taking up the position of Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation for Enugu-North zone.
Anunobi became prominent in Nollywood during the 1990s and has featured in more than 90 films during her acting career. She later became an evangelist, adding religious ministry to her public profile after establishing herself as one of the familiar faces in the Nigerian film industry.
