Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has revealed that Akwa Ibom State’s top-tier infrastructure, peaceful atmosphere, and dedication to youth empowerment influenced his decision to make the state the first Nigerian destination for his 5ive Alive tour.
During a pre-concert reception in Uyo, hosted by Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Davido explained that his team evaluated several potential venues across Africa before choosing Akwa Ibom.
He said the exceptional standard of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium and the state’s impressive facilities made it the ideal location.
The Uyo concert, he added, represents his first live performance in Nigeria in 14 years, following the successful completion of the American leg of his global tour.
“When we were looking around Africa, five places came up and Akwa Ibom was at the top of the list,” he said.
Davido further said that lot of people are flying in from other states that do not have this type of facility.
“You have a standard facility here, that’s why we are starting in Uyo. I am excited. This Akwa Ibom tour is the best of its kind. The stadium is already filled up, so let’s get ready and shut it down,” he added.
The decision followed months of planning that included discussions with sponsors and state officials, and built on earlier signs that Akwa Ibom was positioning itself as a hub for large-scale events.
Davido’s team also confirmed a sponsorship arrangement that helped secure logistical support for the tour. Organisers say the partnership will enable the tour to expand into multiple Nigerian states in the months ahead, with additional dates already under negotiation.
Davido used the platform to spotlight several Akwa Ibom artists, inviting them to perform and urging festival organisers and promoters across the country to continue developing opportunities for emerging acts.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised Governor Eno’s leadership, saying the decision to host the concert in Uyo reflected the state’s growing profile as a destination for sports and entertainment.
The Senate President commended Davido for his global reach and influence, and encouraged the artiste to keep using his platform to promote young talents from the state and the region.
Governor Umo Eno welcomed thanked Davido for sharing the stage with local entertainers, describing the move as an inspiration to many young people.
“We want to thank you for being an inspiration to the younger generation. You have taken your career to the zenith, and it is an inspiration to the youths that what they set their hands to do is achievable with dedication and hard work. We are a youth-friendly state and we are trying to develop talents,” the governor said.
Davido closed his Uyo appearance by thanking fans for their support and promising more dates across Nigeria in the coming months.
