Davido plans UK master’s degree in political science

Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed plans to return to the classroom as he prepares to pursue a master’s degree in Political Science at a university in the United Kingdom next year.

The singer disclosed this at a recent livestream, where he spoke about his academic ambitions and plans outside music.

The award-winning entertainer explained that the postgraduate programme would last for one year, in line with the standard structure of most UK master’s degrees. Davido also dismissed suggestions that he intended to study at Adeleke University, the private institution founded by his family, stressing that the programme would instead be completed abroad.

Speaking during the livestream, the singer said he already holds a bachelor’s degree and is now ready to advance academically. According to him, the decision to study Political Science reflects his growing interest in governance and public affairs, especially as he continues to play an active role in political campaigns and civic discussions in Nigeria.

“I want to do my master’s next year in the UK, a one-year course in political science. I already have my B.Sc,” he said while responding to questions from fans online.

When asked if the programme would take place at Adeleke University, Davido answered in the negative.

In recent months, Davido has become more vocal about political affairs in Nigeria, particularly in Osun State, where his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election ahead of the 2026 governorship poll.

The singer recently inaugurated a youth campaign council to support the governor’s second-term bid and has openly declared his commitment to participating in the campaign process.

Earlier this year, Davido also dismissed rumours that politics would force him to abandon music, insisting that public service interests and entertainment could coexist.

He has not yet disclosed the specific UK university he intends to attend for the master’s programme or the exact date the programme will commence.

The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, remains one of Africa’s most influential music stars, with multiple international awards and global collaborations to his credit. Over the past 15 years, he has built a strong reputation in the Afrobeats industry through hit songs, sold-out concerts and business ventures.
