Afrobeats star Rema has addressed rumours of a rift between him and fellow Nigerian music heavyweight Davido, insisting that there is no bad blood between them despite ongoing comparisons by their fans online.
Rema, the ‘Calm Down’ hitmaker, made the clarification during an interview with Ebro Darden and Laura Stylez, where he dismissed speculation that he and DMW boss Davido were involved in a feud.
Rema said the frequent comparisons between Nigerian artistes and the rivalry they generate among their supporters can sometimes create the impression that musicians are fighting when there is no such conflict.
Speaking about his relationship with Davido, Rema said, “Davido and I have no issues; those are just rumours. I have so much respect for the OGs.”
The singer also revealed that he previously tried to discourage his supporters from engaging in online fan wars involving other artistes.
According to Rema, the constant comparisons between artistes can become difficult to control when fans continue to push rival narratives on social media.
He said, “Fans are always the ones starting things. I used to caution my fans, but sometimes the other artiste enjoys the comparisons and doesn’t do the same, so I stopped.”
Rema’s comments come amid continued online comparisons involving Nigerian music stars and their respective fan bases, with social media discussions sometimes turning into arguments over who has achieved more.
Both Rema and Davido have established successful Afrobeats careers, with their music attracting audiences in Nigeria and beyond.
