CSP Benjamin Hundeyin assumes duty as new Nigeria police PRO

Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin has officially assumed duty as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, approved the appointment this week following routine senior-level redeployments within the Force.

Hundeyin succeeds Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who has been posted to the Delta State Police Command as head of operations.

Confirming his resumption, Hundeyin wrote on his X handle on Wednesday: “Today, I assumed duty as the Force Public Relations Officer @PoliceNG Force Headquarters, Abuja. My immeasurable gratitude goes to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for finding me worthy of holding this position. To all Nigerians, I promise to do my best in the discharge of my duties. So help me God.”

Adejobi, who officially handed over the office on Thursday, described his successor as a “well-qualified officer with solid academic and professional credentials,” and said the Inspector-General has directed Hundeyin to sustain and strengthen public confidence in the police.

Hundeyin’s elevation is seen as a continuation of the Force’s policy of repositioning its communication arm to improve transparency and deepen trust with the public.

Since March 2022, Hundeyin has served as the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, where he was credited with improving police-community relations and engaging proactively with the media and public on sensitive issues. He previously worked as the Public Relations Officer at Zone 2 Command, Lagos, and has also served at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

A graduate of English Language from Lagos State University, Hundeyin also holds a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan. He further obtained a Certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre, Kaduna.

His international exposure includes a stint with the United Nations and African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), where he honed his skills in peacekeeping and crisis communication. He is also an associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), a Member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).

With his new role, Hundeyin is expected to spearhead the Nigeria Police Force’s communications strategy at the national level, enhance transparency, and further strengthen public trust in the Force.
