Nollywood actor and lecturer, Afeez Oyetoro, popularly known as Saka, has revealed why he turned down a lucrative N7.5 million offer from a betting company in 1999.
Oyetoro disclosed that he rejected the offer because it required him to promote gambling, which conflicted with his personal convictions at the time. The actor said he was deeply religious and regularly advised his students against betting, smoking, and drinking alcohol.
According to the actor, the betting offer was brought to him by an agent who later returned with another opportunity. This time, the agent offered him N5 million for a six-month contract that did not involve the promotion of betting.
Oyetoro explained that the six-month job required him to travel around the country as part of the company’s activities. The company was also responsible for his feeding and accommodation throughout the duration of the contract, while the agreed payment was handed over to him after he completed the assignment.
Oyetoro is a Nigerian comic actor, lecturer, and scholar who has built a career spanning academia and the entertainment industry.
He studied Theatre Arts at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree, before proceeding to the University of Ibadan for a master’s degree in Theatre Arts.
Oyetoro gained widespread recognition in 2013 after appearing in an MTN commercial promoting mobile number porting. His character in the advert popularised the phrase “I don port o”, which became closely associated with him and further increased his visibility among Nigerian audiences.
The actor has since remained a familiar face in Nollywood and Nigerian popular culture, combining his work in acting with his academic career as a lecturer and scholar.
