Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has been declared the winner of the August 15, 2026 governorship election after securing victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
The state returning officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, announced the final result at about 7:24 am on Sunday, returning Adeleke as governor of the state for another term.
Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord, polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who won in 11 local government areas.
The result followed the collation of results from all 30 local government areas across the state.
Ogunwole, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, declared Adeleke the winner after agents representing the participating political parties signed the election results. He said the governor had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore declared elected.
The returning officer announced that 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election, while the total votes received by the political parties amounted to 1,005,800. A total of 985,079 votes were declared valid, while 20,721 votes were rejected.
According to the final figures announced during the declaration, the Accord, under which Adeleke contested, recorded 511,067 votes, while the APC candidate, Oyebamiji, polled 444,815 votes. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third in the election with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke recorded victories across several parts of the state, including Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun and Orolu. He also won in Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo and Osogbo.
Oyebamiji, however, secured victories in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun and Obokun. His performance gave the APC candidate control of 11 local government areas but was not enough to overturn Adeleke’s lead statewide.
The final declaration brought the state-wide collation process to a close after election results from the 30 local government areas had been announced.
The outcome confirmed Adeleke’s lead in the closely contested election and paved the way for his return to office for another term.
In declaring the result, Ogunwole said, “That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declare the winner of the August 15 Governorship election and returned elected.”
Other political parties that participated in the election recorded significantly lower figures. The ADC’s Najeem Salaam emerged as the third-placed candidate, while the remaining parties shared the votes outside the leading three contenders.
The election was held across Osun State on Saturday, August 15, with the Independent National Electoral Commission responsible for the conduct and declaration process.
