Yoruba actress Jumoke Odetola has announced that she has answered what she described as God’s call to become a minister and preacher of the gospel.
The award-winning actress made the disclosure on Instagram on Saturday after a series of recent posts prompted concerns from fans, colleagues, and family members about her wellbeing.
Odetola, who is known for her roles in Yoruba-language films, said she had received numerous calls and messages from people asking whether she was okay and whether something was wrong with her.
Addressing the concerns, she expressed appreciation for the support and clarified that, although something significant was happening in her life, she was not facing a personal crisis.
The actress explained that she was entering what she described as a new season with God and had decided to publicly disclose her decision rather than allow speculation to grow around her recent activities.
Odetola said the decision to speak publicly was also influenced by the possibility that people might encounter her preaching publicly. She noted that she had initially considered keeping the development private but eventually concluded that it would be better to explain the change herself rather than have others record her preaching and create their own interpretations of what she was doing.
According to the actress, her recent social media posts had generated considerable concern among those close to her. She acknowledged the calls, messages, and expressions of care from her friends, family members and colleagues, saying the response made her feel seen, cared for and loved.
The actress also asked for prayers as she begins the new phase of her life. She described the development as a response to divine compulsion, saying that although a person may delay when faced with such a call, they cannot ultimately escape it.
The actress ended her message by reiterating the importance of prayer and expressing her conviction that the call she believes she has received from God is one she can no longer avoid.
