Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has said that his political disagreements with the former governor of the state, Peter Obi, have not damaged their personal relationship.
Governor Soludo insisted that both men and their families remain on good terms despite backing different candidates in the state’s governorship election.
Soludo made the remarks during an interview with BBC News Igbo on Monday, where he addressed questions about his relationship with Obi amid renewed disagreements over politics and the former governor’s record in office.
The governor said their friendship remained cordial, distinguishing their personal ties from their political interests. He maintained that disagreements over who should govern Anambra did not mean the two had fallen out.
Soludo described the relationship between their families as close, recalling that they had shared significant personal moments over the years. He said political competition should not be interpreted as a personal dispute between them.
He also referred to the relationship between their families, explaining that their personal connections had continued despite differences in their political choices.
Soludo said their differing political positions were evident during the state’s governorship election, when Obi supported a candidate of his choice while Soludo pursued his own political interests.
“He has someone he thinks should be the governor of Anambra. I am also listening. He supported the person he wanted. But I won by the grace of God,” Soludo said.
