Broda Shaggi reveals how stray bullet injury kept him away from work for months

Popular Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has recounted how a stray bullet injury left him unable to work for months, forcing him to confront fears about his health, career and ability to return to entertaining his fans.

The skit maker disclosed this in a YouTube video posted on Wednesday, detailing the frightening moments after he was shot during a brand activation assignment.

He said he lost consciousness before reaching the hospital, where medical personnel administered first aid to stabilise him.

Broda Shaggi was reportedly hit by a stray bullet in March 2026 while working under a bridge in Sango-Ota, Ogun State. The incident, which occurred on a Sunday afternoon, raised concerns about his condition and kept the entertainer away from his usual activities for several months.

Recalling the incident, the comedian said he was bleeding heavily and desperately wanted reassurance from medical personnel that he would survive the ordeal. He explained that he could remember praying while being taken to the first hospital, although he was unconscious by the time he arrived.

The actor described the experience as frightening, explaining that he was sweating, holding his injured leg and watching blood flow while waiting for medical assistance. He said his immediate concern was hearing a doctor or nurse assure him that he would recover.

Beyond the physical injury, Broda Shaggi said the incident raised questions about his future in entertainment, particularly because dancing, singing and drumming are important parts of his performances. He worried that an inability to use his leg properly could prevent him from returning to the activities that had defined his career.

The comedian explained that he had maintained a demanding work schedule since 2018, moving between writing scripts, shooting skits, recording music, and travelling for engagements without taking significant breaks.

According to him, the prolonged absence from work created uncertainty about whether his audience would remain interested in his content. Although he attempted to remain productive in hospital by writing and launching a YouTube series, he sometimes became emotional while watching videos of colleagues performing.

“There were moments where I would see videos of my colleagues. I would laugh, and sometimes I would start to cry because I wasn’t sure if I would still be able to do all these things they’re doing again,” he said.

Broda Shaggi disclosed that he underwent surgery in Nigeria but subsequently required additional treatment and physiotherapy. About four months after the incident, he travelled to Dubai for further medical care, which he said significantly improved his condition.

He recalled that he was able to stand with support on the second day after the procedure and walk with crutches by the third day.

Although he still relies on crutches, the comedian said his mobility had improved considerably. He can now stand independently, although he continues to use the walking aids for support.

The entertainer described his recovery as a second chance at life and assured fans that he was preparing new projects for his return to the screen.
