Marrying within same tribe may not work —Peller

Nigerian TikTok personality Peller has sparked discussion after advising Nigerians to marry partners from different ethnic groups, claiming that marriages between people of the same tribe may not work.

Peller made the remarks in a video circulating on social media on Tuesday, where he specifically cautioned Yoruba people against marrying fellow Yorubas, and advised Igbo people to consider partners from other ethnic groups.

Explaining his position, the content creator maintained that Nigerians should look beyond their ethnic groups when choosing life partners. He also referenced his own family background and relationship choices while encouraging people to consider interethnic marriages.

The TikTok personality further argued that marriages involving partners from the same ethnic group might not succeed, extending his advice to both men and women.

Peller also spoke about his own marriage preferences, stating that he had married a Benin woman despite being Yoruba. He referred to his parents, who are both Yoruba.

He acknowledged the possibility of negative reactions, saying, “Make Una no vex.”

Interethnic marriages bring together partners with potentially different customs, languages and family traditions, while couples from the same ethnic group may also have differing expectations and values.
