Nollywood actress Damilola Adegbite has advised single women not to settle for men simply because the men have expressed interest in them, urging them to consider whether a prospective partner is genuinely right for and compatible with them.
Adegbite shared the advice during a recent episode of her podcast, which was published on her YouTube channel.
The actress said some women may accept relationship or marriage proposals because a man is ready to commit, without taking sufficient time to consider their own compatibility with him.
She stressed that being chosen by someone should not be the only factor influencing a woman’s decision to enter a relationship or marriage.
According to her, women should ask whether they can build a healthy and supportive partnership with the person before making a commitment.
The actress also addressed relationships involving older women and younger men, saying age should not automatically determine whether a prospective partner is suitable. She advised older women who receive proposals from younger men, to look beyond the man’s age and assess his character, respect, and emotional maturity.
Adegbite maintained that women should not accept a younger man simply because he has chosen them, just as they should not settle for an older man solely because he is interested in them.
She said the more important consideration should be whether both individuals are capable of loving, supporting and building a life together.
“Ladies, don’t choose someone because they chose you. Choose someone because they are right for you; whether he’s younger, older or exactly your age, the question is always: Can we love, support, and build with each other?” she said.
In her view, a younger man can still be considered as a prospective partner if he demonstrates the qualities necessary for a healthy relationship.
“Because at the end of the day, we are not looking for numbers. We are looking for a partner. And if that partner happens to be younger, that is also fine,” she added.
