Nigerian Afrobeats singer Kizz Daniel has revealed that the death of his mother was the reason he stepped back from music activities this year, putting an end to speculations that the pause was linked to work on a new album.
The singer, whose real name is Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe and who is also known as Vado D’Great, disclosed this on Friday while responding to a fan on X, who suggested that an album had kept him away from music for a while.
Kizz Daniel clarified that his absence was instead connected to the loss of his mother, explaining that he had to take time away before returning to work and continuing with his responsibilities towards his family.
The singer also apologised to fans for his late return to the music scene this year.
The disclosure prompted an outpouring of sympathy from fans, many of whom sent condolences and prayers to the singer and his family. Several followers described the loss as painful and encouraged him to remain strong as he navigates the period following his mother’s death.
Kizz Daniel has previously experienced personal losses. His father died in 2015, while one of his triplets died in 2021. The singer has also spoken publicly about grief within his immediate family, including the death of his wife’s mother in 2024.
Kizz Daniel remains known for popular Afrobeats records including “Woju” and “Buga”, songs that have contributed to his profile within Nigeria’s contemporary music scene.
