Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bamanga Mohammed Tukur, has died at the age of 90, his family announced on Saturday.
His death marks the passing of a prominent political figure whose years of public service were closely associated with Adamawa State and Nigeria.
The family confirmed Tukur’s death in a statement signed by his son, Awwal D. Tukur, describing the former PDP national chairman as a beloved father and patriarch who devoted his life to serving his family, community, state and country.
According to the statement, Tukur died on Saturday, although further details surrounding his death were not disclosed.
The family said it received the news with profound sadness while submitting to the will of Almighty Allah.
It noted that Tukur had returned to his Creator after a life of service and thanked those who had reached out with prayers, condolences and other expressions of support following the announcement.
Tukur was widely known for his leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, one of Nigeria’s major political parties. His tenure as the party’s national chairman placed him at the centre of national political affairs and made him a recognisable figure within the country’s political landscape.
