Davido supports separate bank accounts for couples

Afrobeats star Davido has backed the idea of married couples maintaining separate bank accounts, saying he believes both partners should have individual accounts even within marriage.

The singer shared his position on this during a recent appearance on the Uncut Podcast, where he was asked whether couples should keep separate or private accounts.

Davido said he sees no problem with spouses having their own bank accounts and argued that maintaining separate finances does not automatically indicate a lack of trust or problems in a relationship. He said the arrangement should apply equally to both partners, stressing that each person should have some financial independence in the marriage.

The singer went further by saying he would not be angry if he discovered that his wife had a secret bank account. According to him, personal accounts can exist alongside a shared marital relationship without necessarily creating conflict, provided the arrangement applies fairly to both spouses.

His comments centre on the broader question of how couples should organise their finances after marriage, particularly the balance between financial transparency, personal independence and shared responsibilities.

The singer also emphasised equality in the arrangement, making it clear that the principle should apply to both husband and wife, rather than giving one partner greater financial privacy than the other.
