Nigerian music executive Michael Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has revealed that Ayra Starr’s rise to Afrobeats stardom has also had a significant impact on his own life, describing the singer as a “dream Starrgirl.”
The Mavin Records boss made the remarks on X while responding to a fan who praised his role in discovering and nurturing the singer’s career.
Don Jazzy said Ayra Starr had transformed his life as much as her career had been transformed since joining Mavin Records.
Recalling how their journey began, he said he was grateful for the day he was shown one of the singer’s Instagram freestyles, which ultimately led to her signing with the record label and the growth of her career.
“She has most definitely changed my own life too. I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle o,” Don Jazzy said in the exchange. He subsequently paid tribute to the singer’s development, adding, “And she has been nothing but a dream Starrgirl.”
Ayra Starr’s journey with Mavin Records began after Don Jazzy discovered her through her social media freestyles. Following her signing, the singer steadily established herself within Nigeria’s music industry and went on to gain international recognition as one of the leading Afrobeats artistes of her generation.
Ayra Starr has continued to build on that early breakthrough with major releases and collaborations that have expanded her profile beyond Nigeria. Her latest project, her third studio album titled Starrgirl, is a 16-track body of work featuring collaborations with Wizkid, Rema, ZAYN, Leon Thomas, kwn, Theodora and Danny Ocean.
