Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) over its opposition to the administration of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the state governorship election.
Davido made the remarks after a video showed the Ooni of Ife commending Governor Adeleke during the commissioning of the Ile-Ife flyover bridge and road dualisation project.
Reacting to the video on social media, Davido questioned why the APC would oppose what he described as progress in Osun State. The singer, who has openly supported his uncle’s re-election bid, accused the opposition party of standing against development while describing it as “backward.”
Davido said, “APC is just backward. Why would they be doing anything to stop progress? I thought you were all progressive?”
His comment has drawn attention because of his increasingly active role in the political campaign ahead of the Osun governorship election, where Governor Adeleke is seeking another term.
The singer subsequently issued another political message directed at APC supporters in the state. Davido said, “Anybody supporting APC in Osun State is an enemy of progress. Lessons will be learnt this weekend.”
Davido’s latest comments came after his recent appearance at a campaign rally in Osun State, where he explained why he had returned to the state despite his busy schedule.
According to the singer, he had recently released an album and was also on a tour, but chose to focus on Osun because he wanted to see the situation in the state for himself and also because he genuinely cared about his people.
His involvement in the election campaign followed his appointment in April as Youth Mobilisation for the campaign council supporting Governor Adeleke’s re-election. Confirming the appointment on his social media page, Davido expressed his readiness to contribute to the campaign and help ensure a smooth process for his uncle.
His relationship with Osun politics has also extended beyond election campaigns. Last year, the Osun State Government announced Davido’s appointment as chairman of the newly established Osun Sports Trust Fund, further highlighting his involvement in initiatives connected to the state.
