People should wait until their 30s before getting married —Falz

Nigerian rapper and actor Falz has advised singles not to rush into marriage before the age of 30, arguing that people are more emotionally, mentally, and financially prepared for such a lifelong commitment after reaching that stage of adulthood.

Speaking on an episode of The BTS Reality podcast, the 35-year-old entertainer said societal pressure should never determine when a person decides to settle down.

According to Falz, many people spend their 20s discovering who they are, developing their careers and gaining life experiences that shape their future decisions.

He maintained that waiting until one’s 30s provides a stronger foundation for marriage because individuals are likely to have achieved greater maturity and clarity about what they want from life and relationships.

The rapper stressed that people should resist pressure from family, friends, or society to marry at a certain age, insisting that every individual should make such an important decision based on personal readiness rather than public expectations. He said marriage should come at a time when a person has grown through different life experiences and understands themselves better.

Falz explained that a person’s 20s should primarily be devoted to learning, personal growth, and enjoying life instead of feeling compelled to settle down prematurely. He suggested that those years are crucial for exploring opportunities, making mistakes and gaining experiences that contribute to emotional and mental development.

“Getting married in your 30s is the best. Don’t let anyone pressure you into getting married before 30. By 30s, you have gained more life experiences. In your 20s, you are still figuring yourself out. Your 20s are for learning, growing, and enjoying life,” he said.

Continuing his remarks, Falz noted that the experiences accumulated during one’s younger years often become valuable lessons that help shape better judgement in later life. According to him, reaching one’s 30s allows individuals to combine those lessons with improved emotional stability and a clearer sense of direction, making it easier to build a lasting marriage.

He added that the transition into the 30s is often accompanied by greater confidence in personal decisions and a stronger understanding of life’s priorities. For that reason, he believes many people are better positioned to make informed choices about marriage after passing through the self-discovery stage that typically defines their 20s.
