Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has revealed that he plans to return to school and complete his tertiary education.
The singer said abandoning his studies at Kwara State Polytechnic remains one of the biggest regrets of his life, adding that he is determined to earn his certificate in the future.
Portable made the disclosure in a preview of the Honest Brunch Podcast, scheduled for release on YouTube on Monday.
During the interview, the “Zazuu” crooner opened up about his educational journey, the financial difficulties that forced him to leave school, and his determination to one day complete the programme he could not finish.
He was admitted into Kwara State Polytechnic through the institution’s indigene quota to study Business Administration. However, his academic pursuit was cut short after he lost the financial support he depended on to pay his tuition fees, even while selling sachet water to survive.
Speaking partly in Yoruba-accented Pidgin English, Portable said he has not abandoned his dream of obtaining a tertiary qualification. He maintained that returning to school remains one of his personal goals despite the success he has recorded in the entertainment industry.
“I go still finish school as I dey like this. I no finish school,” he said.
“Na Kwara Poly pain me pass. I be student… Na indigene this thing I use enter. I studied Business Administration,” he added.
Portable also reflected on how dramatically his life has changed over the years.
He revealed that while growing up, he was often regarded as the least academically gifted among his siblings. Despite that perception, he said he has become one of the major providers for his family and now supports his father financially, while his sisters are also gainfully employed.
“Person wey dem dey call olodo for my family, na me still dey feed my papa now,” he said.
Although he acknowledged that formal education remains important, the singer encouraged young people not to lose hope if they encounter setbacks. He noted that academic qualifications are valuable but insisted they are not the only route to achieving success, urging people to keep pursuing their goals regardless of their circumstances.
Portable concluded by reaffirming his commitment to returning to school, saying that even after finding success outside the classroom, he still intends to complete the education he was forced to abandon years ago.
