The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election.
The incumbent Governor Oyebanji secured a re-election victory after polling 319,224 votes across the state’s 16 local government areas.
The result, announced in the early hours of Sunday at the INEC State Collation Centre in Ado-Ekiti, gives Oyebanji a second term in office and reinforces APC’s dominance in the South-West state.
The Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Professor Adenike Oladiji, officially declared Oyebanji re-elected after confirming that he met all constitutional and legal requirements.
The APC candidate recorded an overwhelming victory over his closest challengers, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Olumayokun Oluyede and African Democratic Congress candidate Dare Bejide.
While Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes, Oluyede polled 40,533 votes and Bejide garnered 12,872 votes.
INEC figures showed that the state had 988,251 registered voters, while 384,940 voters were accredited for the election. Out of the 382,109 votes cast, a total of 375,777 votes were declared valid after the collation process was completed.
