I would have been unemployed, living with my mum, if music didn’t work out —Ayra Starr

Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has revealed that she believes she would have been unemployed and still living with her mother if her music career had not become successful.

The award-winning singer disclosed this during an interview with EE72, where she spoke about her rise in the entertainment industry, her personal growth, and the realities of life beyond the spotlight.

Reflecting on what her life could have looked like outside the music industry, Ayra Starr said she does not see herself thriving in another career path, that music was not only her passion but also the avenue that transformed her life and created opportunities that may otherwise not have existed.

“If I weren’t doing music, I would literally be unemployed. I don’t even think I would be a content creator because that’s a lot of work. I would just be chilling in my mum’s house and eating my mum’s food,” she said during the interview.

Since breaking into the Nigerian music scene, Ayra Starr has grown into one of Africa’s most recognised young artistes, earning critical acclaim and building a strong international audience through a string of successful releases.

Beyond discussing her career journey, the singer also opened up about one of the challenges that comes with fame. She admitted that she sometimes wishes the public knew less about her personal life, explaining that she often reveals more than intended whenever she is in front of a camera.

“I really wish people knew less about me. Once the camera comes on, I can’t stop talking, and I feel like I overshare,” she confessed.
