Judikay recounts how pregnancy scan suggested her unborn baby had no nose

Nigerian gospel singer Judikay has revealed how a routine medical scan during her second pregnancy led to a frightening health scare after doctors reportedly told her that her unborn baby had no nose and was not breathing properly.

The singer, whose real name is Judith Kanayo-Opara, shared the experience during her daughter’s dedication service, recounting the distress she and her family faced while preparing to welcome their second child.

According to Judikay, the incident occurred when she travelled to Canada at 34 weeks of pregnancy to deliver her baby.

During a scheduled ultrasound examination, medical personnel reportedly informed her that the scan showed concerning abnormalities, including the absence of a nose and signs that the baby was not breathing properly. The findings prompted a recommendation that she undergo further testing for Down syndrome.

Faced with the unexpected report, the gospel artiste said she immediately contacted her husband to discuss the situation and seek guidance on the next steps. Rather than proceed with additional tests, she said her husband disregarded the report.

According to her testimony, the decision was rooted in their personal faith and conviction that their baby would be born healthy despite the troubling medical report.

Judikay eventually gave birth safely, and the outcome differed significantly from what the scan had indicated. She told the congregation that her daughter was delivered without the abnormalities that had been suggested during the ultrasound examination.

However, she revealed that doctors later discovered a complication involving the umbilical cord. According to the singer, medical professionals found that the cord had been wrapped around the baby’s neck twice while still in the womb.

The discovery offered an explanation for some of the concerns that had emerged during the scan. However, despite the challenge, both mother and child came through the delivery safely.

The testimony also shed light on a deeply personal chapter in Judikay’s journey to motherhood. The singer noted that welcoming her second child came after years of waiting and perseverance alongside her husband.
