Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugboma has stated that ending an unhealthy union or marriage calls for a celebration and can be a positive outcome for those involved.
The entertainer made the remarks while discussing marriage, personal happiness, and long-term commitment in relations during a recent appearance on The Morayo Show.
Bovi said he does not view divorce as a failure in every circumstance. Instead, he believes it can serve as a form of relief for individuals trapped in marriages where they are no longer thriving emotionally or mentally, as remaining in a toxic relationship can be more damaging than choosing to part ways.
“I celebrate when people get divorced because I feel it means one or both people were not breathing well in the marriage. I will not suffer anybody, neither will I want anybody to suffer me,” Bovi said during the interview.
Bovi stressed that his position does not stem from a lack of respect for marriage. Rather, he suggested that individuals should not feel compelled to remain in situations that cause prolonged unhappiness or emotional distress.
The actor also used the opportunity to reflect on his own marriage, offering insight into the realities of sustaining a long-term relationship. Despite his support for people leaving unhealthy marriages, he disclosed that he remains committed to his own union, which has lasted for 17 years.
According to Bovi, his marriage has not been without challenges. He rejected the notion that successful relationships are always smooth, acknowledging that the journey has required effort, sacrifice, and perseverance over the years.
He revealed that he got married at the age of 29 and has carried the responsibility of providing for his family ever since. The comedian noted that maintaining that responsibility consistently over nearly two decades has been one of the significant aspects of his marital experience.
By sharing both his views on divorce and his personal experience as a husband, Bovi offered a perspective that balances support for healthy relationships with recognition of the realities many couples face.
